January 2017 Beach Clean Up

Friends of Jupiter Beach (FJB) have their monthly beach clean-up on the first Saturday of each month. Volunteers and FJB members are celebrating the 22st anniversary of keeping Jupiter Beach clean and dog-friendly.

FJB has an agreement with the Town of Jupiter to keep the beach clean and a portion of the beach can be used by dog owners with their dogs unleashed, as long as owners are responsible for their well behaved dogs. FJB provides bags for owners to pickup their dogs droppings.

At the January clean-up, everyone divided into teams to clean the beach, then returned for a continental breakfast and beverages, a brief program and “thanks for coming” door prizes.

Executive Director Karen Gray welcomed volunteers and Joan Ross treated everyone with her special baked creations, donuts holes were provided by Dunkin Donuts and bagels were provided by Einstein Bros. Bagels.
One hundred and ninety four volunteers attended in January and collected 533 pounds of trash and recyclables, to bring the total collected to over 64,000 pounds since 1994.

Trash and recyclables are collected from Jupiter Beach in one hour on the 2.5 mile stretch of beach. The recyclables are separated and taken away by Rapid Removal, a Palm Beach Gardens debris removal firm.
